Aurora’s team were called on by SealesWinslow to increase packaging efficiency in their Morrinsville plant. In addition, the existing robotic palletizer was difficult to use and too slow for increased market demand.

Working with our automation partners from Fuji Japan we specified a 201 series Fuji robot and integrated this into the existing pallet handling and automation systems. After a smooth installation, integration and staff transition we are proud to say the project was a complete success and the Morrinsville site has now increased its throughput ‘dramatically’!

Specific benefits of the Aurora system is the pallet dispensing unit is a lot more advanced that what we had previously. The software on the screen is very useable and very easy to use. Very low maintenance of the system. Overall, a very good machine.

“We call our Fuji Robotic Palletizer ‘Jasmine’. Before we got her, we used to manually stack bags on to pallets. It was a labour intensive job and Jasmine’s made life easier for us. She arrives every day, doesn’t pull a sickie and has made operations a lot easier in that we don’t need as many staff, plus we’re utilising our labour a lot better. In fact, some of the people who were stacking have upskilled and are doing other things.

Before installation of the robot palletizer, Aurora met with us to programme and work out time frames. Implementation was done in a couple of stages and it went smoothly

The nature of our business means we have two busy times, Spring and Autumn. That’s when the majority of sales happen and we have to ensure the job gets done. Jasmine helps us do that.

She’s increased our throughput and efficiency by being able to load a pallet every six minutes. We weren’t able to do that manually. And health wise, she makes things a lot safer, preventing sprains from manual work. While staff were initially a bit sceptical of something new, they now use the robot like any other tool.”

“Over the last eight or nine years, Bostik has seen about a 200% increase in sales. That level of growth is great for business, but it was putting a lot of stress on our operators. We needed to keep up with demand, so automating became a top priority.

Aurora installed a Fuji Robotic Palletizer & valve bag filler for us, and from the initial concept through to execution, they were great to deal with. Their timing and scheduling was spot on, and the overall design and execution of the tech is top notch.

It’s still early days, but we can already tell automating our process is going to have a big impact on our business. We’ll see a reduction in costs on man-power as our new Fuji Robotic Palletizer does the work of about one-and-a-half people and a huge reduction in the risk of injuries.

With a manual process, it was hard to know many units would be stacked each day. Now that we’ve automated, we know exact numbers.

Consistency is also a big one for us. When we were packing manually, the shift might start with about five units stacked per minute – but by the end of the day, that’d be down to two. Now, we know exactly how many units will be stacked each day.

From a productivity, consistency, and health and safety perspective, the shift towards automation is a massive game-changer.”

For us, it was really important that production could continue while the new palletizer was installed. The switch from manual to automated is by no means a simple process, but Aurora made sure that while they did their thing, it was business as usual.

Aurora’s machinery is built to do the job, and do the job right. From a health and safety perspective, it’s a no-brainer – and now that it’s installed, we couldn’t live without it.
